Pangnirtung - Qimiruvik Library

Pangnirtung, Nunavut

Located at the bottom of a mountain, at the mouth of a river, and surrounded by spectacular fiords, Pangnirtung on Baffin Island is known to outdoor enthusiasts as the gateway to the famous Auyuittuq National Park. The community is renowned for its art, particularly at the Uqqurmiut Inuit Arts Centre, where visitors can explore print and weave shops. The acclaimed "Pang" hats, colorfully-patterned crocheted toques made by local artisans, are available at the Centre's gift shop. Pangnirtung Fisheries also plays a significant role in the local economy by harvesting and processing arctic char and Baffin turbot.
